What is Bitcoin and what is the Bitcoin All-Time High?

Bitcoin is the very first cryptocurrency and was founded by an anonymous person or group of individuals, named Satoshi Nakamoto. The Bitcoin Whitepaper, published in 2008 describes Bitcoin as a “peer-to-peer electronic cash system“, i.e. there is no need for a central intermediary that processes the transactions between two individuals. The first Bitcoin version (Bitcoin Core) was launched in January 2009. In reference to Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto, the smallest unit or possible denomination of Bitcoin is called Satoshi (SAT).

Bitcoin is based on the blockchain technology, a distributed ledger system. The blockchain consists of several blocks, each of which contains information about individual transactions. Blockchains are decentralized, usually public records stored on millions of computers around the globe.

The highest price ever reached by a cryptocurrency is called an All-Time High (ATH). On 2021-10-20 14:54:17, the Bitcoin price reached the all-time-high of 67277. In contrast, the lowest price ever reached is called an All-Time Low (ATL).
