Vitalik Buterin

Vitalik Buterin (Vitaly Dimtriyevich Buterin) is a Russian-Canadian programmer best known as one of the co-founders of Ethereum.

In 2013, he published a whitepaper with proposals for a new cryptocurrency named Ethereum (“Ethereum: A next generation smart contract & decentralized application platform”) based on the idea of creating blockchain networks with a more general scripting language to develop multiple applications based on so-called smart contracts.

Vitalik Buterin launched Ethereum in 2015 with Mihai Alisie, Anthony Di Iorio, Charles Hoskinson, Joseph Lubin and Gavin Wood.

He is also known for his generous donations to research institutions, foundations, and charities. In 2021, he donated $1.14 billion in SHIBA coins to the Indian Crypto Covid Relief Fund.
